We went around L’Hospitalet region near Barcelona, which is extremely well connected thanks to the Ciutat de la Justicia. The city walk was extremely interesting to me, especially the distinctions in areas. We saw the artists district, the refugee housings and Zona Franca- home of the skaters and drug dealers due to having access to the sea behind the mountains.
I loved seeing the singular houses whose owners have refused to give up the space for industrialisation. The act speaks volumes on determination to preserve culture and ancestry.
I was intrigued since this is the part of Barcelona that reminded me most of home, back in India. Over the years, I have seen cities in india grow denser and denser due to overpopulation and limited habitable spaces. The houses get smaller and the rents go higher as more development occurs in the area.
It is interesting to see areas in Europe, though it is the metropolitan area of Catalonia, to be so affected by the groups of people migrating here. To seek refuge, or to seek the connections, communities and spaces that a city like Barcelona offers.
The studies we saw on materiality was very intriguing and I enjoyed the various marketing techniques used for the publishings. They inspired me to express my ideas in new ways and to want to buy all the versions of visions by. I want to explore new methods of publication, using virtual and immersive collaborations, and understand the type of writing and expression that it takes to tell my stories.
The talk made me curious about the ways in which I represent qualitative and quantitative data. Especially big amounts of data collected by the city for surveillance and observational studies. I hope I can learn more about data and publication.
